Mile High Mahjong hosts social, welcoming Mahjong events for all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just Mahjong-curious, our gatherings are a great way to meet new people, sharpen your skills, and have some fun without any drama.
From casual open play and pop-ups around town, there’s always a seat at the table.

Denver Mahjong Events & Open Play FAQs
Where can I play Mahjong in Denver?
Mile High Mahjong hosts American Mahjong events throughout the Denver area, including Open Play, Guided Play, leagues and special events. Locations rotate, giving players opportunities to play Mahjong at restaurants and venues around Denver.
What is Open Play Mahjong?
Open Play is a social Mahjong event for people who already know the foundations of American Mahjong and are ready to play independently.
Mile High Mahjong provides the sets and organizes the tables—you bring your current NMJL card and come ready to play!
Do you have Mahjong events for beginners?
Yes. Beginners are welcome to come to open play, however, you must have taken a lesson. If you understand the basics but aren't quite comfortable playing independently, look for Guided Play events. During Guided Play, you'll play actual games while receiving coaching, help with the NMJL card and strategy along the way.
If you've never played before, we recommend starting with one of our beginner Mahjong lessons or classes before attending Open Play.
What is Guided Play Mahjong?
Guided Play is somewhere between a Mahjong lesson and independent Open Play. You already know the basic rules, but an instructor is there to help you identify hands, make decisions, answer questions and improve your strategy as you play.
It's especially helpful after you've taken a beginner Mahjong class but before you feel completely comfortable at an Open Play table.
Where are Mile High Mahjong events held?
Mile High Mahjong events are held at rotating venues throughout Denver and the surrounding metro area, including areas such as Sloan's Lake, Downtown Denver, Baker, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Golden and Arvada. Check the upcoming events calendar for current locations, dates and availability.
Do I need to bring my own Mahjong set?
Usually, no! Mile High Mahjong provides the Mahjong sets for our hosted events unless the event description says otherwise.
Do I need to bring my NMJL card?
Yes. For most Open Play and Guided Play events, you should bring the current National Mah Jongg League card.
Can I come to Open Play if I'm a beginner?
Open Play is best for players who already understand the basic rules and have played at least a few games. You don't need to be an expert, but you should be able to play without continuous instruction.
If you're still learning how to read the card, choose a hand or navigate gameplay, Guided Play is probably a better fit.
Do I need to register in advance for Mahjong events?
Yes. Space is limited at many Mile High Mahjong events, and registration helps us create balanced tables and make sure we have enough Mahjong sets and seats for everyone.
Can I come to a Mahjong event by myself?
Definitely. You don't need to arrive with a group of four. One of the best parts of Mile High Mahjong events is meeting other players. We'll organize tables based on attendance and experience level.
What happens if I register and can't attend?
Because seats at Mahjong events are limited and tables depend on having enough players, please cancel as early as possible if your plans change. We charge a $20 no-show fee for same-day cancels and no-shows. Cancellations under 48 hours will not receive a refund.
Why do you charge for events?
The event fee helps cover everything that goes into creating an organized, easy and welcoming place to play Mahjong. Behind every event is time spent finding and coordinating with great restaurants and venues, managing registrations, carefully curating tables so players have a good experience, preparing name tags and bringing (and buying) the Mahjong sets and supplies. It also supports the website and booking system that makes it easy to find events, reserve your seat, manage your account and keep track of your registrations.
In short, you're not just paying for a seat at a table, you're paying for someone to handle all the logistics so you can simply show up and play Mahjong.
Does Mile High Mahjong host Mahjong leagues?
Yes. Mile High Mahjong periodically hosts leagues and other multi-week Mahjong experiences in addition to individual Open Play and Guided Play events. Check the upcoming events schedule for current leagues and registration opportunities.
